Delta sync (source deduplication)

Both Sync Appliance and the sync clients use delta sync to optimize sync speed, decreasing both transfer and CPU load. Source deduplication is performed at two levels:

  • file-level
  • chunk-level

File-level deduplication ensures that files whose contents are already available by the receiving node (either the Sync Appliance or a sync client) are not transferred again.

Large files are split into chunks which are transferred in parallel. When a file is modified, only the changed parts — as opposed to the whole file — are sent.
